Casino Movies

Honeymoon in Vegas - 1992
A romantic comedy in which Nicolas Cage helps us enjoy the lighter side of Vegas. Cage plays the part of Jack Singer, a guy who's afraid of commitment but finally accepts to marry Sarah Jessica Parker's character in Vegas. After playing poker with the wealthy Tommy Korman (James Caan), he accumulates a huge debt. Korman proposes to take Singer's fiancée as "payment." Now, poor Tommy has to spend the rest of the weekend trying to get her back, leading to a series of comic incidences. Certainly one of the funniest moments of the movie involves the Elvis Presley impersonators convention and the 34 flying Elvises.

Very Bad Things - 1998
The film is about a bunch of friends including Christian Slater, Jeremy Piven, and Jon Favreau, who head for Las Vegas to celebrate a bachelors’ party. However, a sex ends up killing a hooker, played by porn star Kob Tai. Moreover, drugs in the hotel room, force the boys to get rid of the body by any means.

The movie is a cautionary tale about what can happen if you party too hard in Vegas. It is a comedy but you will need a very dark sense of humor to enjoy these guys' clowning around, which even leads to murder and deception. One of the movie's best parts is definitely the ending, which proves that life can certainly be ironic.

Leaving Las Vegas - 1995
This is a movie that won Nicolas Cage an Oscar and catapulted him to the Hollywood top-list. With a minuscule budget and often no-shooting permits, Leaving Las Vegas, directed by Mike Figgis, is a story about an alcoholic who, after having lost his job and family, heads to Las Vegas to drink himself to death. Here, he meets and falls in love with a prostitute, played by Elisabeth Shue.

Obviously, this is a sad tale of despair and addiction but it's also a brilliant love story where two people collide and accept one another for who they are. It's nice to have an uncompromising view of Sin City, a town where there's a darker side to the glitz and glamour.

Casino (1995)
A classic movie. Robert de Niro is at his best in his role as Sam "Ace" Rothstein. Casino is about a casino proprietor and his journey - offering a great insight into the characters of the real Las Vegas.
